🌊 Description

Liwanag is a 2D top-down narrative-driven mystery game about Ilaw (Tagalog word for light), a young heroine who will guide the lost souls of the victims of a catastrophic typhoon in a coastal village in the Philippines. By reuniting these lost souls with their rightful families, Ilaw can vanquish the dark ‘trauma manifestations’ that are plaguing her village.

Talk with the surviving family members to learn about the loved one that has lost,  then convince and guide the lost soul back to their rightful family.

The game hopes to shed light on the harsh realities of the climate crisis and showcases the experiences, traumas, and mental health issues of survivors from poor and marginalized communities that suffer from the effects of the climate crisis.

This prototype was made within 32 hours during YSEALI Game Changers Program, hosted by the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with Biji-biji Initiative and Synapze, which empowers game creators in Southeast Asia to produce socially conscious games as an innovative solution to address pressing challenges in the region.
